Organic Grains & Hay

Finnriver co-founder Keith Kisler grew up farming with his family on their grain ranch in Eastern Washington. That land has been farmed by the Kislers for five generations and it was there he learned the rhythms of farm life, the way to fix a tractor, and how to work long days. Now Keith is proud to be continuing the grain-growing tradition of his family on the Olympic Peninsula.

Keith is working with researchers from Washington State University and the Organic Seed Alliance to test varieties of grain that will grow well in western Washington's maritime climate and organic conditions—such as spelt, wheat, barely, rye, quinoa and buckwheat.

Keith also runs a summer hay operation, cutting unsprayed pasture grass.
