Summer at Finnriver

Sep 14, 2016

Summer at Finnriver

The earth is strumming

a green jig and I can’t stand still

I skip and twirl

to the summer melody

swirling through the season

I stare at ripening fruit

in the orchard and swear

I can hear it singing along

The only quiet place is in the shade of the alders

by the creek but even there

the birds are all a-flutter

In my hair I find lavender flowers and bits of grass

This is the season of fruit

when everything is ripe

when we open our mouths wide

open our hearts wider

and try with great gulps

to take it all

in.
